Blog #07 Fact #6 What are the three (3) different outcomes for a room in aged care?

Blog #07 FACT #06           Why is it some people pay nothing for a room in an Aged Care facility and others are asked to pay up to $550,000 for a similar room ?

This depends on the means test assessment results conducted by Centrelink before entry to aged care. There are several thresholds that the government measures against both for income and assets- to determine what accommodation costs may be. The results of these tests (the income and assets tests) are added together to form part of the assessment.

There are normally one of three outcomes following the income and assets means test for entry to an aged care facility:

 1) An individual may have their accommodation in aged care facility for free

 2) Be asked to pay for the full cost of their accommodation

 3) Be asked to contribute towards accommodation
