Blog # 16 FACT #15 When does the family home count for Aged Care Purposes?

If a person is a member of a couple, each person will be deemed to own half -regardless of whose name the asset is held in.

If the home is occupied by a protected person – it may not be counted as an asset for aged care purposes. If a home is not occupied by a protected person, it may be counted as an asset and will be capped ($175,239.20)as of September).

An exemption for a home may be lost if the person who has been living in the home, moves out of the home, or loses their eligibility for their income support payment
